About

The Lo-Def Film Factory is an artist duo based in South Africa, formed in 2019 by Francois Knoetze and Amy Louise Wilson. Their work involves archival research, dramaturgy, and visual strategies associated with video art, collage, sculptural installation and new media.

It began as a mobile, amateur filmmaking workshop which co-created and screened experimental video in public spaces. Since then, the duo’s practice has embraced elements both formal, like installations and videos – and theoretical, like workshops. Central to their practice is a commitment to working with young people in open-ended research-creation processes, to explore and create space for D.I.Y, collaborative and experimental storytelling.

Their projects probe the intersections between local contexts, extractive economies, and global technological systems– using lo-fi aesthetics to expose high-stakes realities.
